WELCOME to DOME ADVENTURES

STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE COUNCIL CAMP

The day you decide to take a step forward is the day you decide to become a part of something bigger than you.
This happens the day you decide to become part of the STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE COUNCIL.

On the 23rd of November 2014 after a hectic few weeks of exams we loaded the bus and off we went!
Not really knowing what awaits us, but excited like a child getting candy.

We were on our way to the most amazing week of our lives.
As we drove with our cars and the bus, besides missing a few off ramps, throwing donuts on the freeway, wanting to break a GPS, and driving 5km/ph on the dust road in a mini van, we finally arrived.

WELCOME to DOME ADVENTURES the sign read...

We started off with a few orientation exercises and learning how to trust one another, we did the trust fall, lifting ups, untie the knot, spider web and so much more on the adventure course.

We had a few meetings during the day, where our Lecturers shared some experiential thoughts with us helping us to do our year planning.

The next few days we went mountain climbing (testing our fitness skills, probably everyone failed), abseiling (overcoming our fear of height), rowing (some rowing up in the trees) and swimming in the Vaal River.
Not only did we have so much fun in the activities but we made memories, some of us even got our 'nicknames' that way.

This isn't a regular school camp, but a week of bringing out your qualities and potential and also pushing you to handle things out of your comfort zone.
We as SRC of CAPA group are ready to lead the way and make 2015 the most memorable year.

Not only did we develop new leaders for the future, but we made new friends for life.

Successful events depend on every team and every team member doing their job to a high standard, as well as flexibility and a commitment to good cross-team communication. Centurion Academy Campus presents 2015 Potjiekos Competition!

Prestige Academy, Centurion Campus presents 2015 Potjiekos Competition

The ‘potjiekos’ competition was held on the 26th of February from 11h00 till 15h00 at Blackwoods pub, Centurion. All the students from 1st years to 3rd years as well as the lectures from Prestige Academy Centurion attended the event. The theme for the day was “Cowboy” so everyone dressed up according to the theme, as a prize was to be given to the best dressed.

Due to the nature of this event, the students divided into groups of 6-8 people. Each group decided on a type of 'potjie' they wanted to make for the day and the competition kicked off with a bang. While arriving at the venue the fire was ready and the students started making their 'potjies’. All the students was really excited to start, there was a feeling of excitement and enjoyment. One of the students played music from his car, which got everyone in a nice social mood – psst.. he also identically hit the flower pot while trying to park his car in the correct way.

The students got to know each other and the lectures really well. The SRC (Student Representative Council) members were busy walking through the competitors and noticed a few funny and interesting things, so they worked out a number of prizes which they wanted to hand out to make all the students feel excited.  There was a price for the best dressed, best 'Afrikaans learned' student (he is from India and all of the students are teaching him Afrikaans words).A prize went to the new lecturer,‘Mrs Sunshine’.
The prize for the top academic students was also announced on this day. The top students for 2015 are Marius Fourie and Carishma Welman.

After all the formalities, the time had arrived for the judges (the lectures) where they had to taste the potjies which was made during the day. The 3rd year students actually had a unique and different kind of potjie - pizza. The judges named it the appetizers potjie and were quite surprised as all were curious to see what they were up to. The judges tasted the pots which were prepared by the students and after a long awaited evening the winners were announced.

There was a pizza potjie, eland’s potjie, curry and chilli potjie and an oxtail potjie. All of them tasted really good but there can only be one winner. The judges had a really difficult decision to make but decided on the eland’s potjie to be the winner. All the people who worked on the potjie were handed their prizes and were we are really proud of them.

The feedback received was positive and all really enjoyed the day especially to get to know each other outside of the classes.

Athletics Day at Prestige & Centurion Academy - Highveld

Athletics Day
(Kapa Tau’s VS. Omega Khai’s)

On Friday, the 30st of February 2015 we had our yearly athletics day at Zwartskop High School, where the Highveld campus competed against the Banklaan Campus.
Klerksdorp and Soma Campuses also joined us for the day.

GREEN vs. BLUE!!

The day was filled with excitement and laughter, as we took part in all the different items.
Everybody participated even if they had to walk the last 5 meters  they finished it!

We had a singing competition and as the blue was singing alone, the green competed on the field.
Blue won the victory cup for singing and green took the sports cup for most points earned in all items for the day.

The day was very successful! The first year students took hands and as they walked around the rugby field they were transformed from a "Tarragoempie" to a "Spartan" as they crossed the finish line.

After the athletics day we had a socializing event at 'Elephant and friends restaurant' where everybody mingled and enjoyed refreshments after a long hot summer’s day.
