Centurion Academy Campus presents 2015 Potjiekos Competition!

Prestige Academy, Centurion Campus presents 2015 Potjiekos Competition

The ‘potjiekos’ competition was held on the 26th of February from 11h00 till 15h00 at Blackwoods pub, Centurion. All the students from 1st years to 3rd years as well as the lectures from Prestige Academy Centurion attended the event. The theme for the day was “Cowboy” so everyone dressed up according to the theme, as a prize was to be given to the best dressed.

Due to the nature of this event, the students divided into groups of 6-8 people. Each group decided on a type of 'potjie' they wanted to make for the day and the competition kicked off with a bang. While arriving at the venue the fire was ready and the students started making their 'potjies’. All the students was really excited to start, there was a feeling of excitement and enjoyment. One of the students played music from his car, which got everyone in a nice social mood – psst.. he also identically hit the flower pot while trying to park his car in the correct way.

The students got to know each other and the lectures really well. The SRC (Student Representative Council) members were busy walking through the competitors and noticed a few funny and interesting things, so they worked out a number of prizes which they wanted to hand out to make all the students feel excited.  There was a price for the best dressed, best 'Afrikaans learned' student (he is from India and all of the students are teaching him Afrikaans words).A prize went to the new lecturer,‘Mrs Sunshine’.
The prize for the top academic students was also announced on this day. The top students for 2015 are Marius Fourie and Carishma Welman.

After all the formalities, the time had arrived for the judges (the lectures) where they had to taste the potjies which was made during the day. The 3rd year students actually had a unique and different kind of potjie - pizza. The judges named it the appetizers potjie and were quite surprised as all were curious to see what they were up to. The judges tasted the pots which were prepared by the students and after a long awaited evening the winners were announced.

There was a pizza potjie, eland’s potjie, curry and chilli potjie and an oxtail potjie. All of them tasted really good but there can only be one winner. The judges had a really difficult decision to make but decided on the eland’s potjie to be the winner. All the people who worked on the potjie were handed their prizes and were we are really proud of them.

The feedback received was positive and all really enjoyed the day especially to get to know each other outside of the classes.
